As in previous games in the series, NBA2k20 focuses on a realistic simulation of National Basketball Association (NBA) matches. Players can choose their favorites from the table of the 36 teams and can customize them freely. The matches are very realistic and follow the rules of NBA games in real life.

In the NBA2k20 game, for the first time, players have access to all twelve WNBA teams, available in Play Now modes, and in single-season modes. The series returns with the main game mode MyCareer, in which we can create our own player with many customization options, depending on our preferences.

Personalization options include a wide range of clothing, various tattoos, haircuts and unique power-ups. The mode has an original story, which develops as the player progresses.
